Tom Phillips je novinar i humorist. Bio je urednik u britanskoj redakciji BuzzFeeda, gdje je vrijeme provodio naizmjence ozbiljno izvještavajući o važnim temama te zbijajući šale. Tom je u svojoj karijeri jedno vrijeme bio član hvaljene komičarske grupe, radio je na televiziji i u Parlamentu, a pokrenuo je i neuspješne novine. Studirao je arheologiju i antropologiju, kao i povijest i filozofiju znanosti na Cambridgeu, pa je oduševljen što je uspio napisati knjigu za koju mu je studij bio od koristi. Živi u Londonu.
